Human geographer, cultural sociologist (PhD)
Is there a new era dawning in Europe, in which horizontal cooperation and networking between culture and other fields of society gains a foothold? In our presentation Wouter Hillaert and I explore two examples. One is the Belgian civil movement Heart over Hard. The second is a Dutch initiative in which local artists and arts organization are taking the lead in re-evaluating policy and budget structures at the municipal level. We conclude our talk with our joint manifesto “Art in transition. Manifesto for Participatory Art Practices.
Sandra Trienekens is human geographer (MA) and cultural sociologist (PhD). She is the director of the Dutch research agency Urban Paradoxes. The focus of her research is citizenship, diversity and the arts. Alongside her agency work, she has taught at the universities of Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Manchester, and London. She was professor of applied science “Citizenship and Cultural Dynamics” from 2007 till 2011.
