A thriving cultural region

Region Västra Götaland purposefully invests in culture and has the largest regional culture budget in the country, both in terms of the award per inhabitant and estimated in Swedish kronor.

Kultur i Väst is the region's cultural administration and manages development work under the authority of the Cultural Affairs Committee. We have been commissioned to strengthen and develop the role of culture and forms of art in Västra Götaland and to initiate investments based on the strategic cultural policy objectives.

This work involves creating the prerequisites for evenly distributed cultural activities from a geographical, content and social perspective. Our objective is for accessibility, equality, diversity and internationalization to characterize the development of the cultural sector.

Kultur i Väst – a powerful actor
Kultur i Väst is a natural collaboration partner for municipalities, associations, organizations, networks, trade and industry, cultural practitioners, libraries, schools, organizers and inhabitants.

We work together to ensure that culture secures an important and self-evident role in society and that cultural life is diverse and accessible for everyone. We want to be a source of inspiration for experiencing culture as well as participation and creation on your own accord.

We specifically work to ensure that all children and youth are able toparticipate in cultural activities and that the opportunities for co-creation increase.

An important part of our work is to be attentive and take into account the activities in the region. We shall serve as a support for municipalities and cultural practitioners in their development work.
Kultur i Väst does not have any financial profit motive and does not focus on any specific audience.

We do not define the culture or impose limits, instead we work with an open cultural concept and believe in desire, creativity and innovation as important parts of development work. Experience, forms of art andsocial development.

Experience, forms of art and social development
At Kultur i Väst there are broad skills within the cultural area, for example, libraries, cultural tourism, organizer issues, music, art, dance, literature, film, architecture, accessibility, interculture, equality, cultural heritage, culture and health, etc.

We have sound knowledge within all our areas and work with everything from productions to consultative work in a more comprehensive and strategic direction. It may involve producing concerts, festivals and tours, or involve building networks for the work on equality and diversity issues. It may entail improving the conditions for professional practitioners or organizers.

We create meeting places and are a support in the development work, both for individual actors as well as institutions and municipalities. We often perform mappings and evaluations and work in networks regionally, nationally and internationally.

About us
Kultur i Väst has approximately 85 employees. These primarily include consultants, producers, communicators and administrators who work in various ways to ensure that culture secures a self-evident and important role in society. Most of us are located in Gothenburg, but we are also stationed in Skövde, Borås, Uddevalla and Skara.

Kultur i Väst's political management is responsible for ensuring that the administration functions in accordance with the commission of the Cultural Affairs Committee and the intentions of the Regional Council, as a regional cultural policy resource with broad skills in terms of specific forms of art, production, target groups and method development.
